"She's All That" Representation Discussion

After watching the trailer for "She's All That" I began to pick up on a potential issue with the gender representation present. It immediately began with centering the male a stereotypical high school male. Giving him somewhat of a normal introduction about his characteristics. However when introducing characters such as the ex girlfriend the film only spoke on her looks. I don't exactly think that it is a proper or real world best way to represent groups of people. However you must understand that those qualities are what make it into the movie that it is. It should be taken for entertainment purposes as it adds a flare to the plot line. Sure, you could better integrate it but not without altering the films story. I do feel that the films should have limitations for what they can produce under the aspects of representation however I also feel much can be justified as adding to the plot line. I did see the film change course throughout the timeline. As the dorky new girl wasn't the stereotypical hot girl the main character soon didn't care about all that and would comment and bring to light characteristics of herself instead of physical features.

  1. I appreciate the view you provide for the male insight on gender representation in the film because that can often be overlooked. The film defiantly takes stereotypes into account for all characters whether it is the female or male lead roles. You also brought up a good point that the representation is used for entertainment purposes, however, it is still mass media that can effect how people view themselves. Overall, great discussion and points brought up.
