Music Video Project

 My table group and I were tasked with a project. Our teacher wanted us to create a short section of a music video, as in class we just finished covering a big chunk of cinematography. To show off our knowledge the project required a few main shots to be present in the film. When it came to beginning the project I didn't have any specific preference on what genre of music to film about so I let my group members decide. They landed on "kiss me" by Sixpence None The Richer, after listening to it for the first time I realized maybe I should have voice some opinion in the song however throughout the project it grew on me and I really enjoyed working with the song. Immediately after deciding on the song our group drew up a story board to get a general Idea on what we wanted the film to look like. While we didn't recreate every shot, drawing it out lead us to think of some really cool other ideas to tie the entire video together. For example the clips of the record player as the intro taking us into the music and taking us out of the music was not planned out on our story board but I feel like it was an essential piece to the entire work. For me I felt like I had a pretty good understanding how to edit and complete the video so for me it made sense to take up the role of editor for the film. I really enjoyed it to be quite honest it was time consuming but genuinely felt like fun and definitely rewarding to see the finished product. My biggest challenge with editing was for one our night scenes were darker than I expected, so although I did my best to lighten up the video little could be done as it was recorded with a darker contrast then needed. It taught me though that maybe experimenting with supplemental light during the night time would be beneficial and definitely something I will remember for next time. Secondly It was a struggle for me personally to find where the clips fit best based on the lyrics as I had never really listen to the song before hand I didn't exactly have the interconnection to it, luckily my group members were really helpful here as I called them to sort out the order of our clips. All in all I really enjoyed the entire project and will definitely be more prepared next time.

 For the production of our final project I would like to keep it small scale. Going this route allows my team and I to be able to have more flexibility and have the freedom of producing to a niche market. With that being said it should come to no surprise we will go with a independent financing scheme. As we are only high school students anything were going to produce we would like to have control over it rather then someone else having a say in our vision because they put money into it, when it comes to this type of thing we definitely like the creative control. As for who would star in our film, it will definitely be a collaborative effort into fitting the roles. At this point in time it would be me and my friends in class and outside of class if needed more cast members. When we go to shoot obviously we would like to produce something that is not only our vision for the project but is visually appealing. Genre Conventions for Final Project Blog Post

 For our finial project we have selected the crime genre. This genre tends to focus on things like criminal behavior, law enforcement, investigations, and consequence all for entertainment purposes. Its more of a dramatized genre because it has to entertaining and not boring, so we need to find good balance between entertainment and realism. Going over the history of the crime genre a lot has happened. It is derived from silent crime drams from around the 1910s and was inspired by real life crime, like gangsters and mobsters. In the 1930s was where the world saw the true rise of gangster films into popularity. Showing the viewers the people the criminal underworld. From this crime films expanded into detective stories and criminal heist films from jewelry stores or banks. As the crime genre expanded we began to see a lot of correlation to film noir, therefor the two for the most part were intertwined with crime being the genre and film noir being the subgenre.
