Film Analysis Part 3

For my third and finial film analysis I have chosen the movie IT. Once again I havent not actually viewed this film however I got to thinking I want something that represents the horror genre, and its funny because as many ideas that I can creatively come up with for this genre truely I havent watched very many horror films. However I do recall being in elementry school when IT 2017 came out and oh man did it terrorise me. Looking back on it its funny but with the whole clown thing going on it really added to the scare of this movie. Now I digress, the mise en scene for the movie lets just refer to the feel of it as the calm before the storm. Funny enough as it was actually storming. This film does a great job at being calm and almost peacful to watch. The music in the beggining was quite soothing and even reading comments on the opening scene video many others say the same. Now I thought when georgie was walking down to the basement that was where the horror film would take full effect. The music started the change and the scenes got darker however it was just the childish fears of the dark and mind games and then it was back to building a harmless paper boat. What could go wrong right, well for starters I was so off guard by the soothing music I can't lie the ending of the opening kind of caught me with my guard down it was unsettling to say the least. The producers did a great job and even foreshadowed penniewise in the beggining with georgie in the basement thinking he saw eyes but it was just lightbulbs. Moving into the cinematography it was well done, the slow intro in the beggining the calm rain going on out side it was smeemles and peacful different from the traditional scary opening. It was almost manipulation, to catch the viewer off guard as it was the intention of the film.  The editing of the film was practicly perfect the only noticable editing was at the end with penniewise the whole mouth trasforming thing and hand streching was totally to my liking however it fit the film and it made sense. Nothing was done over the top and was all on topic. THE SOUND. This is where I think the producers did a great job much like in a quite place you can tell they hand picked and were very specific with what they implimented. The sound draws you out and in the beggining like mentioned previously calms you and relaxes you. To be honest I went into the video thinking jump scare and was almost on the alert for it however it dropped that guard and then got me when I least expected it. Defenitly some great attributes that I would like to add to my film is that element of surpise. And something that I could even work on currently. Sometimes you dont need a huge build up or a character straight from left feild but make the viewer forget that something dangerous is going to happen is the best thing that I could take away from this and impliment on my own.
