Film Analysis Part 3

Image
For my third and finial film analysis I have chosen the movie IT. Once again I havent not actually viewed this film however I got to thinking I want something that represents the horror genre, and its funny because as many ideas that I can creatively come up with for this genre truely I havent watched very many horror films. However I do recall being in elementry school when IT 2017 came out and oh man did it terrorise me. Looking back on it its funny but with the whole clown thing going on it really added to the scare of this movie. Now I digress, the mise en scene for the movie lets just refer to the feel of it as the calm before the storm. Funny enough as it was actually storming. This film does a great job at being calm and almost peacful to watch. The music in the beggining was quite soothing and even reading comments on the opening scene video many others say the same. Now I thought when georgie was walking down to the basement that was where the horror film would take full effec...

Film Analysis Part 2

Image
For second film to analysis and that will go on to help give me a guideline or more rather a baseline / standard to produce is long legs. Now this was quite the opening scene when you compare it to my last pick "A quiet place". The approach that this film takes is much different. Starting with almost a red window into the life of a lunatic. Again I haven't actually had the chance to view this particular film however I can pick up enough from what I've seen to piece a few ideas together. The mise en scene with this film is particularly original or I should say creative. Beggining with just a red square we some a few title come up naming a few of the production companies which is important to a degree, however more intrestingly I picked up that it was followed by a short poem. Right off the bat that set the tone for the kind of film this would be, adding to the sense and feel of it as well. It was a disturbing poem to say the least but definetly set the tone on where th...

Film Analysis Part 1

Image
As the statement goes less is more and with the quiet place the presentation of the opening scene was so amazing because it lacked dialoge making the viewer listen in and focus more, will get into this later. My genre for my project is horror/crime and with this I decieded to choose a quite place to represent an idea of a great opening scene. I will admit originally I only picked a quite place just off the name alone, it sounded scary but also because of what I've heard from friends who have seen the film. After watching just the opening I myself will be watching the movie soon too. Lets break it down. M ise en scene, that overall look and feel of the movie, from the title alone it was a giveaway at the no talking however the actual implimentation of it was tremendous. We have five senses in real life, touch, smell, sight, taste, and sound. You cant exactly touch, smell or, taste a movie. Traditonally leaving you with just the viewing of a movie and audio. While not taking away tha...

Production Update #1

As of today 2/25/25 me and my groupmates currently just finished gathering our shots for our media production. As of right now without reviewing much of the clips I fear we may have lacked a linear timeline of events however I think we can storyboard a good way to make it work. I really like the shots we have, we made use of low angle shots to show a position of power in one of our characters. Overall it was a very enjoyable little session, it was a lot of fun but also effective. I think that the clips gathered once fully reviewed is enough to get us to that two minute mark while producing something of the quality caliber we were all hoping for. Additionaly we thought we were going to film on an iPhone however I completely forgot that I had a video camera in which we used. It had its own stabilizer built in and captured our dark scenes at night in my opioin slightly more clearer than the iPhone camera. While we made need to have a second shooting day to clean up lose ends, we can ...

Title Research Analysis Blog Post

Taking a look at how films implement titles in there media, its clear that we see a trend of them conforming to their genre conventions. Although not always, we can see a little foreshadowing or giveaway if you will on the type of genre a film is just off the titles alone. Wether its the font or the way they are intertwined within the film that connect ideas or build a scene they alway find a way to fit. To examine further and more specifically we can look at the opening of Venom. The opening VENOM text font gives a small tell on the horror we can expect and a fitting dark ominous background. Again we see a play with the genre conventions of horror, dancing between the dark colors and a bloody red. Ending the introduction with a faded picture of venom himself, alienated looking in horror to create the ambiance. In all the text or title scenes that every film, movie, or tv show produces while to some may very well be a miniscule part it helps get the ball rolling in painting and cr...

Preproduction Plan Blog Post

Now would be a great time to go over what kinds of materials my group and I plan on using and why we see these to be the best fit for us. Starting with the camera were not planning on anything too fancy as being in High School we do have some economical limitations. But that is completely overlooking the quality of an iPhone camera, as it already has good quality and we will just alter the settings to get the best lighting clarity. To keep the shots as steady as possible we can use a tripod or gimbal. If you've kept up with the blog you know we are aiming for the genre of crime and we plan on having a variety of lighting equipment like flashlights, and can use led desk lights to create dramatic lighting. We want to create a sense of realism as much as possible so fake crime scene elements are going to a key for success, we might use caution tape, scattered papers, and could even attempt to make fake blood to create a crime scene. Were not yet sure on the direction were going with ...

Genre Conventions for Final Project Blog Post

Image
For our finial project we have selected the crime genre. This genre tends to focus on things like criminal behavior, law enforcement, investigations, and consequence all for entertainment purposes. Its more of a dramatized genre because it has to entertaining and not boring, so we need to find good balance between entertainment and realism. Going over the history of the crime genre a lot has happened. It is derived from silent crime drams from around the 1910s and was inspired by real life crime, like gangsters and mobsters. In the 1930s was where the world saw the true rise of gangster films into popularity. Showing the viewers the people the criminal underworld. From this crime films expanded into detective stories and criminal heist films from jewelry stores or banks. As the crime genre expanded we began to see a lot of correlation to film noir, therefor the two for the most part were intertwined with crime being the genre and film noir being the subgenre. Film noir was popular...

Production, Distribution, and Exhibition Blog Post

For the production of our final project I would like to keep it small scale. Going this route allows my team and I to be able to have more flexibility and have the freedom of producing to a niche market. With that being said it should come to no surprise we will go with a independent financing scheme. As we are only high school students anything were going to produce we would like to have control over it rather then someone else having a say in our vision because they put money into it, when it comes to this type of thing we definitely like the creative control. As for who would star in our film, it will definitely be a collaborative effort into fitting the roles. At this point in time it would be me and my friends in class and outside of class if needed more cast members. When we go to shoot obviously we would like to produce something that is not only our vision for the project but is visually appealing. As mentioned before we are just High School students we don't exactly havin...
